Carolynn Testani: Depends on GPA more than anything I have a friend who went to med school with an English degree but he had a 4.0. But It also depends on the science if it's physics it won't help anymore than English. But if the degree is chemistry or biology you have an increased chance because of your back ground.
Serena Doak: That's a dumb myth that was made up by people who couldn't put in the work for a "real" degree. Would you rather train a doctor who spent 4 years studying the physiological system of life or someone who spent 4 years reading about world history? Yeah that's what I thought.
Pasquale Pollet: Actually, this is quite true. I wouldn't say that it's "harder" to get into med school with a science degree as opposed to a humanities one, but the admission rate for science majors has historically been lower than the admission rate for humanities majors, as counterintuitive as that sounds. The reason why humanities majors tend to have a higher ! admission rate to medical school is because they tend to have stronger reading, writing, and analytical skills than their science counterparts. Both have a strong foundation in science thanks to the pre-med requirements, and much of the science is learned when in med school, so the ability to communicate clearly tends to outweigh the smaller science background for humanities majors when it comes to med school admissions....Show more
Tomeka Hameen: Sometimes, but not always. Med school admissions committees take a holistic view of their applicants. So if you are really fascinated with science, why, then, did you major in history? Then, again, why major in history, when you are really fascinated with the sciences?...Show more
