Why does higher education in the U.S. seem to lower intelligent thinking?

Vince Delarge: Tell that to the African students that were burnt up in a college dorm in China.

Miguel Koczela: Maalox or Tums.

Tory Clapper: They execute anyone that steps out of line. They dominate other races so there is no problems. Haven't you been watching what the Chinese are doing to the Muslim Chinese? Sheesh

Brock Anwar: Well Locutius.. you should be familiar with the collective....I think that not only higher education, but the entire system, encourages stagnant rigid thinking and it locks it's students into looking at things in one way.I find that students who have studied in other countries / systems tend to have a more flexible approach to things and manage to think not only outside the box, but off the pallet too....Show more

Elsie Resner: depends on the university

Rachell Meese: Keep it light. You don't want to be vomiting a whole sandwich or something that might burn coming back up.

Paul Maymi: It is not the students fa! ult...it is because of Liberal tenured professors (Ward Churchill) teaching them their personal and political philosophies and treating it as the gospel. Student are discouraged from engaging the professor with differing ideas for fear of failing the class. Solution is to review tenured teachers every couple of years and get rid of the ones who don't make the grade. And, unfortunately there are those that do not have any business going to college in the first place..contrary to popular Liberal belief not everyone can make the grade and it is doing them a diservice later in life by just passing them....Show more

Tamatha Neubaum: Maybe lowering the requirements to actually pass tests had something to do with it.It was the mid to late 80s umm 86 maybe that ACT tests were made easier and SAT tests were around that time as well. I think that someone pointed out that the US education wasnt performing well so someone thought hey, well lets just make it easier to score high! er and that will make people seem smarter....Show more

W! ill Camus: Go to Hell.. lmao

Fritz Hawkey: Higher education has become easier to obtain. Decades ago, those people who went onto higher education were usually the best of the best.I can recall high schools, when I attended, would guide students with high grades towards college and students with mediocre grades towards vocations. Today the goal is to get everyone to college regardless of their capability. As a result, the intelligence of the higher educated people is lowering....Show more

Ronnie Panas: You didn't take advantage of higher education, did you?

Natalya Sydney: Do you have some source to your claim? Because I do not think you are right.

Arlen Lopiccalo: A nation for Conservatives would be Iran.

Sabra Roers: Just recently ethnic unrest in western China was quelled by the Chinese military.

Jose Bouliouris: it is a ethnic center (it has its own culture and self made image), whereas America is a cosmopolitan of culture. There is s! imply no cultural mingling in China or Russia (esp China)

Freeman Rutkin: Don't eat anything, you will throw up.

Jonie Lauria: Lets see.........maybe because China is over 95% Chinese. The rest pretty much Mongolian and Tibetan.

Benita Nancy: I say we conservatives stay here in the US and you guys can move to Sweden considering you apparently find it to be a virtual heaven on earth.

Indira Wassell: Antarctica??????

Veta Slicker:

Bailey Lares: Temper, temper, Barack!

Carli Watterson: Two words: leftist professors.

Sammy Hatzenbihler: You've obviously never been to China OR Russia !They just don't publish their racial issues in the newspaper or broadcast them on TV as their media is defacto state controlled. We get to talk about it (a lot !)because a lot of black and white guys died so that we can be a FREE COUNTRY.Those of you who think there are no racial groups in these countries, have simply never been there. As to no black ! Russians or racism please have a look, ye uninformed:http://www.cnbc.co! m/id/32299845

Renay Billiar: My wife and I always eat Nachos and Cheese. No joke. .. just the truth. We treat it the same as some people would treat a sporting event.

Renay Billiar: Cooked Goose avec Barack Puree'

Ambrose Mumma: now how many black chinese people you ever seen? or a black russian? get real

Darren Heling: Republicans should avoid Cheetos, and of course pretzels are off-limits as well. Everything else is okay for them, especially snacks with pork products, like pig's feet and pork rinds. Better still, order them a "Limbaugh" pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and extra Canadian bacon. Democrats can have carrots and celery with bleu cheese dip....Show more

Ivan Velazquez: Hash brownies

King Bringle: Never in Russia.....why ?

Woodrow Neyman: Your question should actually be phrased: "Why does the US seem to lower intelligent thinking in higher education?"The answer: because our culture of self-gratification has done wonder! s to kill the average young American's work ethic. If it's too difficult a task, too many young people just don't want to be bothered with it. Of course, there are some serious, disciplined scholars in colleges in the US, but there are also a lot of deadbeats who are only there because they want that higher paycheck that they think they will automatically earn by getting a college diploma (NOT "college education", "college diploma"- see the difference?). As a result of this attitude, schools seem to be dumbing down their curriculum to suit the students. Just for the record, the young people who most clearly seem to be an exception to this diminished work ethic are people in the military. Their peers in college should follow their example of focus and diligence....Show more

Delphine Cajka: Since, Universal Health Care and Global Warming seem to be the two markers that conservatives will not cross in the fear that we wind up being some some English Speaking version of t! hat Socialistic Hell the rest of us call Sweden. Seriously, who could! blame them, Union Jobs, universal health care for life and my god 4 to 6 weeks vacation per year. Since we know that no good conservative could ever tolerate such a land, I thought be the kind socialist we are and for the common good come up with a good alternative for a new nation that will NOT have Universal Health Care and DID NOT sign these dumb Global Warming treaties. Any ideas for good new homes for the poor minority conservatives that cannot stand the fact that the majority of this country is to stupid to be against universal health care and we be in need of a new home were freedom from socialistic agenda's prevail....Show more

Madge Voice: How so? College grads in the US make way more money than non-grads over their careers, and grads of elite schools like Harvard or Yale make more money still. That doesn't sound dumb to me at all. After all, Bill Gates is a Harvard man, and George Bush went to Yale and Harvard.

Olen Penhallurick: yeah, i'd like t! o answer but i have raging wild fires to help extinguish. You know, with the help of the other firefighters who are part of the forest service that is government run. It's just terrible all those thousands of people, who's homes/lives are in such danger, that they have to rely on some poorly run government program to save them. And as for universal health care that you are against, i agree with you. Why should my tax dollars go to help "you poor minority conservatives", which you claim you are. Yeah, i agree with you---you should pay for your own medical bills. America certainly does not need any compassionate program (health care) to help you. Yeah, you have a well thought out argument and i agree, lets forget about helping each other---which is what a society does---and lets eliminate ALL socialist programs, including medicare, medical, social security, the military, police, firefighters, welfare, aid to children. I agree with you--let's start a free society that has no g! overnment at all and we can live happily ever after....Show more

! Benny Stehno: They can put their trailers on barges and lash them together and make their own floating island.

Hyo Hardell: It is a misconception that there is no racism in China. China is not made up of "Chinese". There are lots of Chinese ethnic groups and there is discrimination. About 90% of China's population belong to a ethnic group known as the Han, and within them are further subgroups. In addition to the Han, there are the Zhuang, Manchu, Hui, Tibetans, Mongols, and Uyghurs, just to name a few! The Hui practice Islam and actually don't eat pork (which is the most commonly eaten meat in the whole country). Many of these groups speak their own languages in addition to the common Mandarin Chinese. Mongols, speak Mongolian, Uyghurs speak Uyghur, etc. During my time in China, I saw discrimination against Tibetans, Hui, and Uyghurs. These groups are mainly centered in Western/Northwest China and some are definitely not recognized by the government. Whenev! er you hear about protests in Xinjiang province, they usually involve Uyghurs. Remember all the protests in Tibet before the Olympics? Remember people got killed? I was at the unveiling of the Tibetan railway and there was discrimination going on. Tibetans couldn't get near the ceremony (I mean, I couldn't watch the ceremony either, to be fair), and some of the Chinese I was with (they were Han) told me to 'be careful" because "Tibetans like to carry knives and stab you". Absolutely ridiculous statements. China definitely discriminates. There is a definite preference towards Hans. When I was there, if you were a Han, you were definitely considered fantastic, you could definitely brag about it, and you generally could think of yourself as better than the rest of the ethnic groups. I think this viewpoint comes from a lack of social evolution. After all - wasn't the US the same way 50 years ago? So, after reading my comments above, don't think of the Chinese as a ter! rible people. They just need time to reach the same conclusions we did! and it isn't our place to judge a culture we don't understand or push them towards a cultural change they aren't ready to make (it's the people that need to make the change, which will cascade to the government). The country is really fantastic, the people are the friendliest, most generous, and gracious I've ever met (despite what their beliefs may be), and the food is unbelievably yummy. It was a really wonderful experience.

Dawn Saha: Because the smarter you think you are, the less you feel you can be wrong. Look at our universities, you have a professor, who has all these credentials, now his or her students are young with little life experience, they look at the professor and know that if they don't please them, they'll fail, they look up to them for their knowledge and think that everything that comes out of their mouth is correct. If you were a professor, you'd get an ego too.

Rona Ising: I hear crackers and ginger ale are good for preventing vomitin! g. Whatever you eat, I would keep it light and take some aspirin afterwards.

Daren Ventrice: Yeah go to Mexico.

Damion Oleksa: China is largely made up of Chinese. Russia has plenty of race problems and even larger problems of religious discrimination. The US is the most diverse population in the world so there will naturally be a higher amount of race crimes. Even with the diversity of the US we have a pretty good track record over the last 50 years of being the most inclusive country. We still have racist but it is not the majority. Many race baiters such as Jessie Jackson, Rev Wright, Van Jones, and AL Sharpton make their fortunes by attempting to keep race tensions high. If it was not for race issues all of these guys would be nobodies.

Raleigh Lufkin: I can't eat while watching. It interferes with my presidential debate drinking game. And considering how clichéd these two blokes are, I have a sip every few seconds or so.

Valentine Michaud: Tha! t would be a matter of perception not a matter of truth. The ability t! o think in the abstract is a sign of intelligence. Its narrow thinking that dissolves the part of the brain responsible for being able to see the big picture. Those that only think inside of the box, live inside of a box.

Carmelina Enoch: Because you are uninformed.Racism is much worse outside the USA. People fight REAL WARS because some ethnic group claims ancestral rights over a particular piece of land. China has no HOPE of having a non-Chinese person in the top leadership position in their government, or probably in their government period.

Kris Otuafi: Most cons should say Romney's AZZ since they love the taste. You'd have to in order to believe the bullshit Romney is slinging.~

Willie Tun: Since you cite no instance of this happening, I would have to say no.George W. Bush graduated from Yale, and Harvard Business School (he was rejected by the foremost school of jurisprudence in the country, The University of Texas School of Law). Are you impying t! hat this education caused the dissolution of the part of his brain responsible for logical connection? How could you insult the best President of this century that way?...Show more

Joel Feagler: its called the libertarian free state projecthttp://www.freestateproject.org/

Shaun Rapkowicz: Give them S. Carolina, minus Charleston. It's the armpit of America, and they congregate in Evangelical churches there anyway. They can wall themselves off, and we wouldn't have to deal with them, either. Win/ win.
