rented an apartment realized there are no fire alarms? legal?

Luis Farlow: I am not so sure that it is illegal, but if you are that concerned about it, you could simply ask your landlord to have them furnished. I am 100% sure that he'll comply, giving that these are simple requirements of his insurance agency for a payout, should a claim arise.

Marty Tichnell: I live in Pittsburgh PA

Cierra Gadbaw: No, he does not need to provide a fire extinguisher for an apartment like you've described, but in most states he would need to provide a back door entrance and, barring that, a fire escape, and you need to have smoke alarms as well. But we'd really need to know your state before we can know how to answer.

Also, this should have been one of the things you looked at when you first checked out the apartment before renting.*EDIT* - And if your state happens to not have any such law, then you can go out and purchase those yourself. They are fairly inexpensive....Show more
