when was the first car made?

Roni Kurz: 1886 Benz Patent Motor Wagen.

Renato Abatiell: 1769. The Cugnot Steamer, a three wheeled steam carriage designed to pull artillery was the first self propelled car invented. It was also involved in the first car accident, had no brakes, and was hard to handle due to the heavy weight on the steering end. They also made a 4 passenger version.http://www.supercars.net/cars/3603.html

Gus Leiby: there were a few cars made in the early years....every month, somebody made a car....but THIS was the FIRST assembly-line carhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf8d4NE8XPw

Granville Stray: It depends on what you consider to be a "real car", but we might say that in 1893 Duryea brothers produced the first Gasoline Powered car in the USA.

Eli Trapeni: Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot is often credited with building the first self-propelled mechanical vehicle or automobile in about 1769, by adapting an existing horse-drawn vehicle. However, this claim is disputed by some! who doubt Cugnot's three-wheeler ever ran or was stable. In 1801, Richard Trevithick built and demonstrated his Puffing Devil road locomotive, believed by many to be the first demonstration of a steam-powered road vehicle. It was unable to maintain sufficient steam pressure for long periods, and was of little practical use.In 1807 Nicéphore Niépce and his brother Claude probably created the world's first internal combustion engine which they called a Pyréolophore, but they chose to install it in a boat on the river Saone in France.Coincidentally, in 1807 the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed his own 'internal combustion engine' and used it to develop the world's first vehicle, to be powered by such an engine....Show more
