Coy Tapley: A lot of it depends on your area, all states are different. I think the average for assistants is between $12-20 an hour. You should go into hygiene though, we make between $22-45 an hour ;)

Antonia Mogg: I guess I need to move to Houston. The National Average for the United States for a dental assistant is between $15.00 hr and $21.00hr. For a Registered Dental Assistant it is between $18.00 and $25.00. Also, the more diversified your experience, the better the pay will be.It does however depend on where you live. I have never heard of any assistant making between $60K and! $120 K a year. Fees for dental services are regulated by the zip code of the office. The more affluent the area, the more the dentist can charge. Hence, the more a dentist can charge, the more he/she can pay.
